  1. If I may take this opportunity to comment on what is a really excellent book. I was amazed at how much insight this book gave into the local area and it's history. Absolutely stunning pictures as well. I can tell a lot of work must have gone into this work and the author deserves applause. I also bought Colin Scott's book The Western Welsh Story which set me back £30 and although I was paying for hardback, Colon Scott's book is nothing on James of Ammanford, and the Western Welsh Story doesn't go into nearly as much depth. But it is still a nice book and I would also recommend. Please will the author Vernon Morgan release more books soon because I have thoroughly enjoyed the James book.
    Many thanks.

  2. A quick note to thank you for the fantastic response to my order for a copy of your book. I only placed the order at 9am on Tuesday and it arrived just before lunch on Wednesday. You could teach major retailers a thing or two.

I’ve only had a chance for a quick skim through the book, but I’ve already found some gems. I'm particularly interested in the history of the bus service in Carmarthenshire and South Cardiganshire that were transferred from Western Welsh/South Wales to Crosville in the March/April 1972. Until a few months ago I was unaware of the role that James had played in the Ammanford-Aberystwyth service, but I have managed to get copies of joint James/WW timetables for the service from the 1930s to the 1950s from the Omnibus Society library. I was then told that James had used deckers on some of their busier workings on the service but had been unable to find any photos of a James single decker, let alone a double-decker, on the service. Already I’ve seen the photos of a Tiger Cub heading for Lampeter and a Titan at Aberystwyth. The book was worth getting for those alone!

Thoroughly recommended as book on local social and economic history as well as for the detail about James.

  3. Having previously bought Vernon's tremendous book on James of Ammanford I knew without hesitation that I had to add SWT 100 to the collection.

You will not be disappointed especially if you are a SWT fan. It comprises of 148 A4 pages containing a splendid mix of mono and colour photographs with very detailed captions of which mostly are from the author's own collection and to my knowledge never been published before.

Of particular note is the fascinating inclusion of a fold out family tree at the end of the book. This is an extremely detailed illustration of how the company evolved with the numerous mergers and takeovers right up until becoming First Cymru Buses Ltd in 1999.

This is without doubt a very worthy addition to any public transport enthusiasts bookshelf .Highly recommended.

  5. Meticulous research, interesting reading and a huge selection of good quality photographs, the Davies Bros book is produced to the same high standard as Vernon Morgan's previously published titles, illustrating the history of James Ammanford, Eynon's Trimsaran and Pembroke Dock based Silcox Motor Coach Co.
